There's rocket fuel, and then there’s Club Mate.

Originally created in 1924 by G. Latteier in Dietenhofen, the German beverage has since become something of a staple in the greater Berlin clubbing sphere. The drink itself is a variant of Yerba Mate, a beverage that consists of brewed Yerba leaves, a caffeine-rich South American plant that's been consumed for thousands of years. Whilst the drink contains considerably more caffeine than other energy drinks, it does contain dramatically less sugar, making it a somewhat healthier alternative.

Culturally, Club Mate holds a special place in the hearts of Berlin clubbers. It’s the fuel that lights the fire behind many a good night, keeping ravers going til the morning, and the next morning, and the one after that. Traditionally, the drink is bought by itself, and then you add shots of vodka throughout the night, but of course, you choose your own destiny. We like it with dark rum and a little bit of lime, which makes for a delightful beverage.
